Essential Elements of Friendly Information (EEFI) are the bits of information about friendly operations that, if known by the enemy, could help them plan or counter our actions. The purpose of protecting EEFI is to keep that sensitive information from the adversary, reducing the chance they can detect, anticipate, or disrupt our operations. In practice, this means identifying what information could tip off an opponent (locations, timings, capabilities, intentions), limiting who can see it, using need-to-know access, and handling it securely.

That’s why the best answer is to protect from enemy detection: if EEFI leaks, the enemy can infer our plans and vulnerabilities and adjust their actions accordingly. Revealing to all allied forces, publicizing to civilians, or sharing with competitors would defeat the purpose of security and would expose us to greater risk, not reduce it.
